Ubudoda (Manhood) Mental Health and Wellness Conversations (Izimbizo)
The Ubudoda (manhood) mental health and wellness conversations (Izimbizo) are workplace sponsored and facilitated forums for men to talk about issues that affect them as men at work, in their homes and broader society. Mbulelo Mayikana through Mbulelo Conversations (Contemporary Conversations) personally facilitates these sessions. The forum principles are rooted in traditional cultures where men would come together in what used to be called “Izimbizo” and discuss various aspects that affected communities that they were part of. These platforms were also used to solve community problems but more importantly also norm the society on the preferred norms and behaviours espoused by the relevant communities.

The objective is to contribute to men’s positive mental health that in turn benefits the workplace, families and the broader society. The forum/s seeks to equip men with knowledge and skills that will help them to positively navigate their way in all spheres of life.
The forum/s focus in organisations is to tackle contemporary thorny issues that affect men’s mental health including chronic stress and coping with the changing societal norms and changing role of men in societies. The forum/s also deals with contemporary topical matters where men’s assistance is required in norming families and communities. These topical issues include but are not limited to role of men in communities/societies, abuse, GBV, drug addiction, teenage pregnancies, moral decay, excessive use of alcohol and being present parents in children’s lives. Izimbizo’s also teach men about depression, debt management, stress, addiction, dealing with financial problems, taking care of one’s overall health, fostering positive and preserving relationships in homes and families.
